St. Timothy's - Winston-Salem

The Women of St. Timothy’s – Winston-Salem are having a jam-packed year of activities, speakers, outreach and retreats. Here's a month-by-month review.

September: Kickoff meeting; a baby shower was held for a new member. Lunch is always included at every meeting.

October: “Put Your Head in the Clouds: The Power of Dream,” by Valerie Vestal, life and business coach. The author spoke to the group about reconnecting to “your authentic self and creating a life beyond your wildest dreams.”

November: “What Archaeology Can Teach Us about Women in Ancient Israel”, by Megan Moore, instructor in the religion department at Wake Forest University. Ms. Moore has taken part in two archaeological digs in Israel.

December: Annual Christmas Gift Wrapping Party; members brought paper, scissors, tape, ribbon and wrapped gifts for the Kids Kafe.

January: The speaker was Addie Hymes, Parental Involvement Coordinator for the W-S Forsyth County Public Schools. She spoke about parental right-to-know to advocate for their children in the public school system.

February 6-8: Annual Retreat; the theme was “Women and the Bible” with Christie Barker, leader. It was held at Laurel Ridge Camp, Conference and Retreat Center near West Jefferson.

February 15: “A Visit to Kiev and the Ukraine” by Ksenia Richards, native of Kiev and daughter-in-law of member. Included are slides of beautiful Eastern Orthodox churches and monasteries and other historical sites in Kiev.

March: Jean Alderman conducted a workshop on “Discerning Your Spiritual Gifts”.

April: “Cooking for Your Family” by Donna Upchurch and Joe Davidson. Learn to prepare delicious healthy foods without breaking your back or your budget.

May: “Grounds Tour” with Master Gardener Anne Hester and first annual plant swap.

St. Timothy's ECW raised funds via a bake sale and a yard sale, and gave $1,650 to Second Harvest food bank and $1,650 to Crisis Control.
